100 years of Braun Design

Since the iconic Wandanlage began development in 1961, it has remained a figurehead in design thinking. And 60 years on, Virgil Abloh, the Chief Creative Officer and Founder of Off-White and Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, has reimagined it for 2021. Abloh analysed and explored the original designs from the inside out, utilising his personal influences to create a piece of “Functional Art” that continues Braun’s principle that good design is built to last. “You take a canon of design—of European, almost undisputable modernism—but then take a niche subculture—Black music and its relationship to chrome rims. And the beauty of it is you tell a new story based on a canon that’s from a different point of view.”
